Scenario
U+ Bank is expanding their retail financial services business to include personal lending. U+ Bank has decided to utilize Pega Blueprint™ functionality to accelerate the ideation of their new Retail Loan Origination application.
As a Pega Business Architect, Blueprint allows you to combine Pega's industry expertise with the power of generative AI to create the Case Type workflows, data, and Personas for a Pega Platform application in record time. Once the application has been created, you use Blueprint to collaborate with stakeholders from U+ Banks Retail lending group to review and fine tune each feature of the application before exporting the file for upload into Pega Platform.
Use the following credentials to log in to the exercise system:

Your assignment consists of the following tasks:
Task 1: Create a new application Blueprint for U+Bank's new retail personal lending initiative
Create a Retail Loan Origination Blueprint file using Pega Blueprint functionality.
Task 2: Review the Workflows, data and integrations, and Personas generated by Blueprint
Review the Workflows, data, and Personas generated by the Blueprint for the Retail Loan Origination application.
Task 3: Review the summary of the application overview and export the Blueprint file
Review the summary of the application overview and download the application blueprint file.
Detailed Tasks
1 Create a new application Blueprint for U+Bank's new retail lending initiative
- Log in as an Application Developer.
- In the Username field, enter author@uplus.
- In the Password field, enter pega123!.
- From the header of Dev Studio, click Switch studio > App Studio.
Note: Close the dialog boxes that display on the new instance of Pega Platform.
- In the header of App Studio, click Application > New application.
- In What type of Application do you want to build? dialog box, click Create a Blueprint.
Note: This challenge instance has been updated with the latest version of the Blueprint Import Module. For more information, see Blueprint Import Module.
- On the Pega Blueprint web page, click Build a Blueprint.
Note: Blueprint is not a Pega Infinity capability but a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) application. Pega Blueprint is available on the Pega.com website.
- In My Blueprint Dashboard web page, click Create a Blueprint.
- In the Let's start your Blueprint! Which industry is your application for? page, complete the details:
- In the Which industry is your application for? list, select Banking and click Next.
- In the Select a sub-industry list, select Retail Banking. From the Department/function drop-down list, select Lending. Then click Next.
- In the Application purpose list, select Retail Loan Origination.
Note: The items in the Application purpose list use pre-built application templates and Case Types. Pega identifies the pre-built templates.
- Review the pre-filled content displayed in the Functional description field.
- In the Organization name field, enter U+ Bank. Use the Language dropdown to update your Language preference. Then click Generate.
Note: To accelerate your legacy transformation, you can upload documents that outline your business process by clicking the Upload supporting assets button.
- In the Which industry is your application for? list, select Banking and click Next.
2 Review the Workflows, Data & Integrations, and Personas generated by Blueprint
- In the Let's define your workflows using Pega Case Types page, review the Case Types proposed by the Blueprint for the Retail Loan Origination application.
- Click the Home Loan Application Case Type.
- In the Edit Case Type dialog box, review the Case Type description. The Case Type description determines the Stages and Steps associated with Blueprint proposed workflow details.
Note: To update an existing workflow using a client's legacy information, import a BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation) file into the Edit Case Type dialog box. Click if a BMPN file is imported into an existing Case Type. You can also use a BPMN file to add a new Case Type to the application.
- To return to the list of Case Types, click Save.
- Review each of Blueprint's proposed Case Types and their descriptions, then click Next.
- In the Workflow Details section, to the right of Define workflow details for, confirm that Home Loan application is selected.
- In the Home Loan Application Case Type, click the Case Lifecycle tab to review Blueprint's proposed Case Lifecycle for the Home Loan Application.
Tip: Blueprint's Case Lifecycle accommodates both Primary and Alternate Stages. To add a new Primary or Alternate Stage, click the Add Stage icon to the right of the end Stage. Stages, Processes, and Steps can be added to the Case Lifecycle. Stages, Processes, and Steps can be dragged to reorder them in the Case Lifecycle. Use the Notes feature to add additional context for each Step as needed.
- For the Home Loan Application Case Type, click the Case Data Model tab. Review the fields proposed by Blueprint for the Home Loan Application.
- To access the Edit Field dialog box, click the Actions icon, located on the right side of the field row, and then click .
Tip: Use the Field Type dropdown to update the type for each field. Use the Description feature to add additional context for application development. The Mark as Primary Field designation will ensure the field is reflected in certain default Views in the Constellation user interface (UI), including the Views associated with Blueprint's functionality.
- To exit the Edit field dialog box, click Save.
- At the top of the table, click View Relationships to review the Data Object relationships proposed by Blueprint for the application.
- Click the Close icon to return to the Case Data Model tab view, then click Next.
- In the Data & Integrations section, in the Let's define the Data Objects and Integrations for your Application page, review the data objects proposed by the Blueprint.
- To access the Edit Data Object dialog box, click the Actions icon to the right of the data object, and then click .
Note: Identify the Source for the Data Object in the Edit Data Object dialog box. The default source is the Pega(Local) database. You can create a new source from the System of record list.
- To exit the Edit Data Object dialog box, click .
- On the Data Objects and Integrations window, click Add a Data Object. In the Import data definition dialog box, you can upload an OpenAPI Specification (Swagger) or DDL YAML file to automatically create new data objects from legacy information.
- To exit the Add a Data Object dialog box, click Cancel.
- Once you have reviewed the Data Objects proposed by Blueprint for the application, click .
- In the Personas section, in the Who are the Personas involved in your workflows page, review the Personas proposed by the Blueprint.
- To access the Edit Persona dialog box, click the Actions icon to the right of a Persona, and then click .
- To exit the Edit Persona dialog box, click Save.
- To access the Persona Settings dialog box, click the Actions icon to the right of a Persona, and then click .
- Click each tab to review the Case access, Data Access, Channel, and Release planning settings.
- To exit the Persona Settings dialog box, click Save.
- Review the Personas proposed by Blueprint, then click Preview my app at the bottom of the Blueprint window.
- Preview the assets of your new application in each of Blueprint's preview channels that reflect the final product.
Note: You can fine-tune the theme for your Blueprint-generated application and immediately see your changes in the live preview by configuring settings for the color scheme, layout, and font properties for different parts of the user interfaces.
- In the upper-right of the Home Loan Application UI Preview page, click the Close icon to return to the list of Personas, then click Next.
Tip: The first time configuring a Blueprint, the Preview my app button is accessible when at the Personas step. After you reach the Personas step at least once, you can access the Preview my app button from the Workflows step onward. Unlocking earlier access to the preview enables real-time validation of your design decisions. However, it is crucial that you lay the foundation first.
3 Review the summary of the application overview and export the Blueprint file
- In the Summary section, review the summary of the Retail Loan Origination application.
- Confirm that the Application Context, Workflows (Case Types), Data Objects & Integrations, and Personas match what you reviewed and edited in Task 2.
Tip: Each section of the Summary page is editable.
- Click History to review the history of the revisions made to the Blueprint.
- Click Download PDF.
- From the Print screen, save the Blueprint as a PDF file to a location on your machine where it is accessible.
- Click Download Blueprint.
- Save the Blueprint file to a location on your machine where it is accessible and can be used to import the Retail Loan Origination application into a Pega Platform instance.
