Creating an email treatment with the enhanced email authoring tool

U+ Bank has experienced exponential growth in new account registrations monthly.

However, initial customer engagement metrics reveal that the bank's current plain-text welcome email is underperforming. The marketing team has identified the welcome email as a critical touchpoint that is currently failing to deliver value. The team decides to create a visually appealing, intuitive welcome email by using the enhanced email authoring tool in 1:1 Operations Manager in Pega Customer Decision Hub™.

The following table provides the credentials that you need to complete the challenge:

Your assignment consists of the following tasks:

Task 1: Verify the revision status

As a Content Lead, check the current revision status in the email authoring workspace and create a new revision if no open revision exists.

Task 2: Save the email template

As a Content Lead, save your completed email design as a reusable template in the system.

Task 3: Create an email treatment

As a Content Specialist, build a new email treatment using the enhanced email authoring tool by configuring the content blocks, personalization, and dynamic elements.

Task 4: Promote the changes to production

As Content Lead, review and approve the email treatment to make it available for associating with an action.

1 Verify the revision status

  1. On the exercise system landing page, click Pega InfinityTM to log in to 1:1 Operations Manager.
  2. Log in as a Content lead:
    1. In the User name field, enter ContentLead.
    2. In the Password field, enter rules.
  3. In the navigation pane of 1:1 Operations Manager, click Revision management.
    Nota: If you are using an instance from a previous challenge and notice an existing revision, you can skip this task. Otherwise, if no revision is available, proceed with the steps to create a new one.
  1. On the Revisions tab, in the CDH standard release section, click the Add icon to create a new standard release revision.

  2. In Create Revision dialog box, in the Due by field, click the Calendar icon, and then select a date in the future.
  3. Click Submit to create a revision.

2 Save the email template

  1. In the navigation pane of 1:1 Operations Manager, click Content.

  2. On the Content landing page, click the Templates tab to select a template.
  3. In the Categories section, select Pega Templates to see the pre-built templates.

  4. In the search bar, enter Welcome, and click enter.
  5. Click the Welcome template.

  6. In the Email Template section, click More > Save as new template to create a change request.

  7. In the Save as template change request dialog box, complete the following details:
  8. In the Change request name field, enter Create U+ Bank welcome template to represent the change request name.
  9. In the Completion date field, click the Calendar icon, and then select a date in the future.
  10. In the Purpose of change request field, enter Save an email template to use for welcome emails.
  11. Click Create to submit the change request.
  12. In the Create email template section, in the Template name field, enter New account welcome email template.
  13. In the Categories field, enter Welcome templates.
  14. In the editor, complete the following edits:
  15. Select the row with the logo image by clicking the Move icon, and then click the Delete icon.

  17. In the editor, click the Content tab.
  18. Drag the Image element above the text box.

  19. Click the Image block.
  20. In the Image properties pane, in the URL field, enter https://artifacts.pegaenablement.com/newsletter/U%20bank%20email%20banner.png.
  21. Click Choose image, and then close any pop-up window that is displayed.

  22. At the end of the template, click the address section, and then replace the text with U+ Bank,123 Banking Plaza Anytown, MA 12345, United States.

    Nota: You can add, remove, or replace elements in the template and customize according to your requirements.
  1. Click Submit to save the template.
  2. Confirm that the change request status is RESOLVED-COMPLETED.
  3. In the navigation pane of 1:1 Operations Manager, click Content.
  4. On the Content landing page, click the Templates tab, and then ensure that the template is shown as an Organization template.

  5. In the upper-right corner, click the user profile image, and then select Log off to sign out as the Content Lead.

3 Create an email treatment

  1. Log in to 1:1 Operations Manager as a Content Specialist:
    1. In the User name field, enter ContentSpecialist
    2. In the Password field, enter rules.
  2. In the navigation pane of 1:1 Operations Manager, click Content.
  3. On the Content landing page, click the Treatments tab.
  4. Click the Email tab, and then click Create treatment to create a change request.

  5. In the Create treatment change request dialog box, complete the details:
    1. In the Change request name field, enter Create new account welcome email treatment to represent the change request name.
    2. In the Completion date field, click the Calendar icon, and then select a date in the future.
    3. In the Business issue list, select Grow.
    4. In the Group list, select Deposit Accounts.
    5. In the Purpose of this change request field, enter Create a visually appealing and engaging welcome email for the newly onboarded customers.
    6. Click Submit to configure email treatment.

  6. In the To do list, in the Author email treatment task, click Go to open the task.
  7. In the Author Email Treatment section, in the CONTENT tab, configure the details:
    1. In the Subject line field, enter Welcome to U+ Bank!
    2. In the Preheader field, enter Start enjoying your U+ Bank account benefits today.
    3. Click Select template to select an email template.

    4. Select New account welcome email template, and then click Submit.
  8. In the editor, compose the email treatment:
    1. Select the first paragraph text box, and then select the Arisa text.
    2. In the toolbar, click Merge tags.

    3. In the search bar, enter First Name, and then click Enter.
    4. In the list, select First Name, and then click Apply.
    5. Select the second paragraph text box, and then replace the text with Welcome to the U+ Bank family! Your new U+ Bank account is now active and ready for use.
    6. Click the third paragraph text box, and then replace the text with Congratulations on successfully completing your online account registration.     7. Click the list text box under List of features, and replace the text with the following list:
      • Complete Digital Banking Suite
      • Exclusive Member Benefits
      • Advanced Security Protection
      • 24/7 Helpline Availability

      Nota: You can navigate to the Content, Rows, and Settings tabs in the editor to configure the different elements and make your treatment more appealing.
  9. On the DETAILS tab of Author Email Treatment section, complete the following details:
    1. In the Name field, enter U+ Bank New Account Welcome Email.
    2. Ensure that the default value of the Availability is Always.
  10. On the PREVIEW AND TEST tab, configure the following to send a test email.
    1. In the Persona list, select Troy.
    2. In the From list, ensure that Default email account is the active selection.
    3. In the Reply to list, ensure Default email address is the active selection.
    4. Click Send test email.

    5. Close the window that displays the email is sent successfully.
  11. On the browser tab where you accessed your Pega Academy exercise system, click Application Switcher > Web Email.

  12. Log in to the Citadel server:
    1. In the User name field, enter [email protected].
    2. In the Password field, enter customer1.
  13. In the navigation pane, click Mail to open the mailbox and access the received emails.
  14. Click the first email, and then review the contents.
  15. Return to Pega 1:1 Operations Manager, and then click Submit to finish the task.
  16. In the Assign build stage peer-reviewers section, click Submit to skip adding the peer reviewers.
  17. In the upper-right corner, click the user profile image, and then select Log off to sign out as the Content Specialist.

4 Approve the email treatment

  1. Log in as a Content Lead:
    1. In the User name field, enter ContentLead.
    2. In the Password field, enter rules.
  2. In the navigation pane of 1:1 Operations Manager, click Change requests.
  3. In the list of change requests, select Create new account welcome email treatment.
  4. In the Review treatment configuration task, click Go.

  5. In the Peer review treatment section, review the treatment.
  6. In the Peer review treatment section, add a comment, and then click Approve.
  7. Confirm that the action status is RESOLVED-COMPLETED.
