Pega Diagnostic Center overview

Pega Diagnostic Center (PDC) is a SaaS-based monitoring tool for Pega Platform™ applications that offers real-time insights into performance, quality, and diagnostics. It helps you, as the Lead System Architects (LSA), detect performance bottlenecks, security issues, and critical alerts. PDC supports both cloud and on-premises environments, providing historical analysis and predictive insights to optimize application health and stability.

Pega Diagnostic Center

PDC aggregates system data to spotlight areas that need attention. It delivers actionable insights that help you resolve issues before they escalate, improve performance, and maintain a smooth user experience. Throughout design, development, testing, and production, PDC supports application quality and alerts you to events that require intervention.

PDC receives, analyzes, and stores data from Pega Platform. It collects both summary statistics and individual data points from multiple sources. Pega Platform does not transmit personally identifying information (PII) to PDC, except for the Operator ID, which you can encrypt if needed. Designed with security and compliance in mind, PDC protects the data it gathers and handles it according to industry standards.

To help you monitor system health, PDC offers performance and usage dashboards. For example, the Response time and Interactions graphs show how the system behaves under load. A high average response time might point to database issues, while a stable system typically shows high interaction volume without spikes in response time.

PDC also includes detailed reports, root cause analysis, and performance trend reviews. It provides proactive recommendations that guide you in improving application stability. Because PDC maintains historical data, you can track trends over time and assess the impact of changes made to your application.

PDC displays alerts or exceptions as events. Each Event type reflects a specific system issue. For example, OPS Events indicate operational problems such as out-of-memory conditions. DBMS Events highlight database-related issues. The Event Viewer displays these Events and serves as the landing page for PDC. To help you manage exceptions efficiently, PDC collects them as cases that you can search and review.

To fully use PDC, you need to know how to navigate its dashboards, interpret performance metrics, and configure integrations with external tools. These capabilities support proactive monitoring, informed decision-making, and seamless integration of Pega Insights into enterprise workflows.

PDC dashboard navigation and configuration

The enhanced PDC interface includes multiple dashboards that support different monitoring goals:

  • System Resources dashboard: Review CPU, memory, and network usage across all nodes.
  • Background Processing dashboard: Track agent activity, queue status, and batch jobs.
  • HTTP Monitoring dashboard: Review inbound traffic and response times.

Configure the available filters and layout options to tailor the dashboards to your monitoring requirements. As a LSA, use these settings to focus on the data that supports monitoring and architectural decisions.

Performance data interpretation

Effective use of PDC requires the ability to interpret complex performance data and identify opportunities to improve system behavior. For example, performance data interpretation includes the following tasks:

  • Understanding memory allocation patterns
  • Identifying CPU bottlenecks
  • Analyzing database query performance
  • Recognizing integration performance issues

The enhanced PDC interface supports these tasks by providing AI-powered recommendations. These insights help LSAs prioritize optimization efforts based on business impact.

Integration features

Integrate PDC with external monitoring tools, business intelligence platforms, and project management systems to incorporate Pega performance data into your broader monitoring ecosystem and automate workflows for issue resolution. Configure these integrations to support your compliance and reporting strategy.

PDC also provides statistical data about system components:

  • Databases: Displays table size, row count, and live index status.
  • Elasticsearch: Shows index details, document volume, and host node status.
  • Dynamic System Settings: Lists current settings for Pega Platform, including both system-generated and user-defined entries.
  • JVM Monitoring: Tracks garbage collection (GC) pauses and memory pool usage in real time on the JVM Monitoring landing page.

The following figure shows the flow of data for an environment configured with PDC:

Dev, UAT, and Prod send monitoring alerts through Amazon SQS to PDC, which processes and triggers notifications.
