The CPLSA mission challenges
The Certified Pega Lead System Architect (CPLSA) mission challenges build your architectural decision-making skills, not your configuration skills. Each challenge presents a business problem. You analyze the possible solutions, weigh the trade-offs, and justify your recommendation. Base your decision on performance, scalability, reusability, security, user experience, and long-term maintainability. Also account for business constraints such as time, cost, and effort.
Pega Academy provides a complete reference solution for each challenge so that you can compare it with your own analysis. You do not need to reproduce the reference solution rule by rule. Focus on the reasoning behind each design choice, because your design thinking matters more than the configuration.
As artificial intelligence (AI) takes on more of the configuration work in Pega Platform™, the value of a Lead System Architect (LSA) shifts from building solutions to orchestrating the AI tools and teams that build them. Your work starts with understanding why the business needs a solution. You then frame the right problem, set architectural guardrails, and guide the solution toward the business outcome.
Your role grows from enterprise architect to technology leader (mini-CTO). You make sure that AI tools and agents work together within enterprise guardrails and deliver predictable outcomes. Pega Infinity™ is built for Predictable AI (unverified trademark status), so you design solutions with clear handoffs between AI and people, and you govern those handoffs.
As you work through it, ask yourself: Which parts of this design would I delegate to AI, and which guardrails would I set?

Pega Platform options for verifying the reference solution
You can verify the reference solution in either of the following environments. Virtual machine (VM) environments are not supported for this course.
| Option | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Pega Academy cloud instance (recommended) | You want an environment that is ready to use, with nothing to install. |
| Your own Pega Platform environment | You have access to a Pega Infinity '26.1 environment, for example through your organization or a project. |
Option 1: Pega Academy cloud instance
- In the Scenario section of the challenge, click Initialize Pega instance for this Challenge.
- Log in to the instance with the credentials provided in the Challenge.
- Review the configured rules.
- Run the application to check the solution against the scenario requirements.
Option 2: Your own Pega Platform environment
- Make sure that your environment runs Pega Infinity '26.1 and that your operator has permission to import application archives.
- Import the MDC_DeliveryService_Infinity261.zip Rule Admin Product (RAP) into your environment.
- Log in to the imported application.
- Review the configured rules.
- Run the application to check the solution against the scenario requirements.
