Activity debugging with Robot Inspector

Goals of the Activities tab

The Activities tab in the Robot Inspector allows you to view and run Robot Activities, Interaction Manager activities, and public automations. Testing and debugging is available without access to the Pega Platform™ application when using Robot Activities in your automations. The separation between the Pega Platform application and your automation provides the following benefits:

  • A singular focus on the automation behavior
  • No need to consider the integration points between the two systems
  • Testing without starting a case from your Platform application

Activity automations begin from the Activity Started Event design block. Automations that begin with an Event design block cannot pass input parameters like procedure automations that begin with an Execute design block. The activity parameters in both Robot or Interaction Manager activities rely on how you configure the two components. For more information on testing interaction activities, see Using Robot Inspector

When testing robot activities, Robot Inspector requires you to complete the activity configuration in Pega Robot Studio first, including entering the full class name, the activity name, and selecting from the fields or relevant records for the activity. Complete this configuration along with the development of the automation using the activity. For more information on using and setting up Robot Activities, see Robot Activities in Pega Robot Studio.

Activities tab navigation

You execute an activity by highlighting one of the listed activities, which allows you to begin performing that activity in Robot Inspector. If that activity requires input parameters, Robot Inspector prompts you to enter them. The screen recalls the parameters you entered previously during the current session.
