Stages in a Data and Integration Designer case
The Data and Integration Designer creates a unique case for each task and presents the stages you need to complete a selected task, such as adding a new entity or modifying an existing entity. The Data integration and designer creates or modifies the underlying rules to update the model for your application. It saves you the effort of manually configuring these rules and ensures that the changes comply with the Common Data Model design patterns.
After you complete the configuration steps, you can access the Data integration and designer in the Create menu of the Data Portal.
Beginning a Case
In the Data Portal, when you click Create > Data and integration designer, the system creates a Case with a unique Case ID. When you select an option, the Data integration and designer displays more options to complete the selected task. The following figure shows an example of creating a new entity. The Case ID is DID-1003.
When creating a new entity, you complete the initial Case to create the entity.
To configure the new entity further, you start a new Case and select the entity. You can save the Case and access it later on the My Work landing page, which lists each Case and its status, as shown in the following figure:
Case Stages
When working on a Case, you complete some or all the Stages, as shown in the following figure, depending on the task.
For example, when you create a new entity with an external data source, you complete all stages. However, if you are adding a property to an existing entity and using the existing data source, you complete three of the stages: Extend Model, Test Entity, and Summary.
The following table describes each Stage in which you configure different assets for an entity:
|
Stage |
Description |
|
Extend the model |
In this Stage, you can add a property to an existing entity and configure views to include the property. |
|
Manage Integration |
In this Stage, you can select a Data Page (for example, D_Account) and an associated Profile (for example, ACCOUNT_DETAIL). You can configure a REST or SOAP connector to an external data source, test the connection, and then upload the response. |
|
Configure mapping |
In this Stage, you map source properties to entity properties. This Stage creates or updates the associated Data Transforms. |
|
Manage sample data |
In this Stage, you can add sample data, download data templates to use to create sample data, and then upload sample data. The page provides instructions for managing your sample data. |
|
Test entity |
In this Stage, you run the Data Page to verify the entity changes and the response. |
|
Summary |
You review the Case summary and submit and resolve the Case. |
You can move between the Stages and make changes before you submit the Case. You can save your progress at any point. You can reopen the Case in your Worklist and continue working. When you submit the Case from the Summary page, the Case is resolved.
