Application and production Rulesets

A Ruleset is a container that groups related Rules together. It acts like a version-controlled package where you define, organize, and manage Rules that implement the behavior and logic of your application.

Application Rulesets

Application Rulesets are containers that hold the Rules defining a Pega application's behavior. They organize related Rules into logical units to support development, testing, and deployment. The New Application wizard creates the initial Application Rulesets when the application is generated. By default, these include two Rulesets for the application and two organizational Rulesets. Add additional Rulesets for reusable functionality that you want to migrate to other applications.

Tip: The Rulesets created with the New Application wizard that end in Int are used for Rules related to integration.

Production Rulesets

Production Rulesets are special Rulesets that allow certain types of Rules to be updated directly in a production environment, without needing to redeploy the application. Production Rulesets are commonly used for delegated Rules. However, production Rulesets can apply to any use case that requires Rules to be updated in a production environment. Operators have the Production Ruleset listed in their Access Group to gain access. Production Rulesets have at least one unlocked Ruleset version in the production environment.

The following figure shows configuration of production Rulesets on the Advanced tab of the application record:
