Automations in Pega Robot Studio
Automations are the backbone of Pega Robot Studio. Automations turn tedious manual work and repetitive tasks into efficient, standardized routines. Automations simplify a business process by taking any repetitive steps, such as data entry or opening and closing windows, and automating them.
For example, an accountant company receives all the purchase orders and invoices from its clients through online forms. The company uses a Windows application as a system of record.
To book a client's expenses, an accountant has to save a client's ID number, open a Windows application, find the client's account, and manually copy the transaction data. To avoid the time-consuming and human error-prone task of manually copying transaction data, the company uses Pega Robotic Automation™.
When an accountant opens the purchase order, the automation copies the client's number and other transaction data, such as the total amount.
The automation opens the desktop application and enters the stored client number from the data. The automation then navigates to the Account Transactions tab and inserts expense details.
Pega Robot Studio automations mimic user interaction. You can combine access to legacy applications and different actions within multiple applications into a simple routine. When automating a manual process, it is a best practice to watch how users interact with and respond to the application. Watching for variations between users with mouse clicks versus keyboard shortcuts aids in the development and structure of your automations for the project.
