Robot Inspector overview
Instead of using conventional debugging methods, the Robot Inspector tool allows you to isolate specific automations without testing your entire automation whenever a change is necessary or when adding a new piece of functionality. For example, with procedural automations, the Robot Inspector allows you to test parts of a process instead of the whole process. Through Robot Inspector, you perform targeted automation testing of a complete workflow or individual parts of a workflow without processing an entire use case. The Robot Inspector tool assists in debugging by allowing access to the following testing capabilities:
- A user interface to run automations with entry points directly with user-entered parameters and view the results
- Visibility into the current value of all global variables and lookup tables with options to change those values
- Real-time visibility into application matching at runtime
- Quick access to commonly used files and folders such as Runtime logs
Advantages of Robot Inspector
The following actions in the Robot Inspector tool provide testing advantages over the conventional debugging process:
|
Action |
Advantage |
|---|---|
|
Launching individual procedure automations |
Reduces time by not running all automations in a solution to test new ones |
|
Inspecting control events |
Allows you to log these events in real-time for troubleshooting adapter issues |
|
Starting or Stopping adapters |
Allows you to view the object hierarchy of an adapter and observe controls matching and unmatching |
|
Viewing and editing internal data structures |
Provides a live view of structures such as global variables lookup tables and activity variables for verification |
|
Accessibility of configuration files, log files, and assisted sign-on windows. |
Allows you to review and analyze the best settings for your solution and test them as necessary. |
Methods to enable Robot Inspector
There are two ways to enable the Robot Inspector in Pega Robot Studio:
- Modify your local RuntimeConfig.xml file. This option allows you to add the Show Robot Inspector option to the tray settings in the developer's computer, where you can start the debugging tool when needed
- Create an automation that launches Robot Inspector each time you run the solution.
