Adding a property to an existing entity

Scenario

After reviewing the Common Data Model, you conclude that you need to extend the model by adding a property to show the Instagram account information for each customer. You add the new property to the existing Contact entity and maintain the existing data source for the entity.

The following table provides the credentials that you need to complete the challenge:

Your assignment consists of the following tasks:

Task 1: Add a property to the Contact entity

In App Studio, use the Data and Integration Designer to add the Instagram property to the Contact entity.

Task 2: Confirm your work

In the Data Portal, in the Contact entity, confirm that the Instagram property is available for any contact. Test that the property works by adding a new Contact.

 

You must initiate your own Pega instance to complete this Challenge.

Initialization may take up to 5 minutes so please be patient.

Detailed Tasks

1 Add a property to the Contact entity

  1. In the Pega instance for the challenge, click Launch Pega Infinity™ , and then log in as an Administrator by entering the following credentials:
    1. In the User name field, enter TestAppAdmin.
    2. In the Password field, enter password123!.
  2. In the navigation pane of App Studio, open the designer tool.
    1. Click Tools > Data and Integration Designer.
    2. Click Launch Designer Tool.
  3. In the Choose entity section, click Reuse from existing entity, select the Contact entity, and then click Next
  4. On the Extend the model Stage, expand Entity properties if they are not displayed, and then add the property:
    1. In the upper-right corner, click Add property.

      In the Field name, enter Instagram, and then click Submit.

    2. The Entity properties section shows the new entry:
    3. Click Configure Views to expand the Views section.

      The Data and Integration Designer displays a list of views related to the Contact entity.

    4. Click the Social Media View.
    5. In the Edit view pane, in the Fields section, click Add > Fields, search for and select Instagram, and then click Add.

      The preview shows the new field in the Social Media View.

    6. Close the Social Media View.
  5. In the header of the Case, click the Test Entity Stage.
    Note: You are using the existing Contact entity data source, so you do not have to configure the integration or configure mapping
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the Case Summary Stage, review your changes, and then click Resolve to close the Case.
