U+ Comms, a leading telecommunications company, has decided to utilize Pega Customer Decision Hub to improve its customer experience and provide better service. The company offers a broad range of products to prepaid and postpaid customers. U+ Comms uses its website and sends outbound communications through SMS and email channels to market its products to subscribers.

The team has started the kick-off meetings and is eager to start implementation. As the Decision Architect, you are responsible for configuring the development environment and preparing the environment for change management.

A typical 1:1 Customer Engagement project involves five environments:

  1. An orchestrator to manage and automate the deployment process of artifacts to the candidate environments.
  2. A development environment (system of record) to develop enterprise features.
  3. A staging environment to test changes and assess their business and technical impact.
  4. A business operations environment (BOE) to perform business changes.
  5. A production environment to serve real customers with the latest and greatest artifacts.

However, this assignment provides only two environments:

  • Development system that serves as the system of record, production, and orchestrator
  • Business operations environment in which you initiate business changes.

Initiate both environments by using the following challenges:

Initialize the Development environment.

Initialize the Business Operations environment.

Caution: The environments are deleted after three days of no usage.


You must initiate your own Pega instance to complete this Challenge.

The assignment offers a practical opportunity to gain experience managing a complete 1:1 customer engagement implementation project from start to finish.

The objective of this assignment is to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Develop a new Pega Customer Decision HubTM application from the ground up.
  • Expand the data model in accordance with specific requirements.
  • Create new data import jobs to populate customer profile data sources.
  • Utilize components from Pega Marketplace to establish clickstream integration with an external source, such as a website, and build summary data sets.
  • Generate new actions, treatments, and engagement policies.
  • Build new extraction templates and action flows, and run 1:1 outbound schedules.
  • Migrate the initial application to higher environments (only the business operations environment in this case).
  • Implement a new business change in the business operations environment.
  • Deploy a revision from the business operations environment.

The assignment consists of two parts:

The first part covers the initial setup of the application in the development environment, preparing for the initial migration that initiates the change management process.

  • Setup the new application
  • Extend the data model
  • Create aggregations on stream data sets
  • Prepare data jobs for importing data
  • Configure and run 1:1 Outbound schedules
  • Test engagement policies through Customer Profile Viewer

The second part of the assignment involves the initial deployment of the application to the business operations environment and making business changes.

  • Migrate the application to the business operations environment through the deployment pipeline (Initial migration).
  • Work with 1:1 Operations Manager and Customer Decision Hub in the business operations environment
  • Create, test, and deploy a new contact policy
  • Deploy the revision through the business change pipeline.
