Stages in a Data and Integration Designer case

When you create a new entity or modify an existing entity, the Data and Integration Designer creates a unique case and presents the stages you need to complete the task. The Data integration and designer creates or modifies the underlying rules to update the model for your application. It saves you the effort of manually configuring these rules and ensures that the changes comply with the Common Data Model design patterns.

After you complete the configuration steps, you can access the Data integration and designer in the App Studio > Tools.

Beginning a Case

When you click Launch Designer Tool, the system creates a Case with a unique Case ID and displays the first screen of the designer wizard. The following figure shows an example of creating a new entity. The Case ID is DID-1008.

Starting a new case to create an entity

When you create a new entity, you complete the designer creates the rules for the entity and then displays a summary.

After you complete the first screen, the designer steps through the remaining tasks required to build or modify the entity. The steps are organized into stages.

Case Stages

When working on a Case, you complete some or all the Stages, as shown in the following figure, depending on the changes you want to make to the entity.

For example, when you create a new entity with an external data source, you complete all stages. However, if you are adding a property to an existing entity and using the existing data source, you complete three of the stages: Extend Model, Test Entity, and Summary.

The following table describes each Stage in which you configure different assets for an entity:

Stage

Description

Extend the model

Add a properties to an existing entity and configure views to include the properties.

Manage Integration

Select a Data Page (for example, D_Account) and an associated Profile (for example, ACCOUNT_DETAIL) to view the configure components, including Connectors and Data Transforms. You can use an existing Connector or configure a a new Connector to an external data source. You map the data using Data Transforms. You can add sample data and test your entity.

Review configuration

Review your changes. You select the Data Page and Profile to review the current configuration. You can go back to an earlier stage to make changes.

Manage sample data

Add sample data. You can download data templates to use to create sample data and then upload the sample data. This stage provides instructions for managing your sample data.

Test entity

Run the Data Page to verify the entity changes and the response.

You can move between the Stages and make changes before you submit the Case. If you navigate away from the Case, the Designer saves any changes. You can reopen the Case in the DID Worklist and continue working. When you submit the Case from the Summary page, the Case status changes to Resolved and the entity is ready for use in your application.

DID Worklist

The Data and Integration Designer (DID) saves an active Case and its current state in the DID Worklist section. You can open a Case from the worklist and continue your work, or otherwise make changes. The following example shows the DID Worklist, which lists each active Case and its status.
