Alternative interrogation techniques
In Pega Robot Studio, the interrogation process does not always recognize automation objects. Inconsistent application development makes objects hard to find and interrogate. When the standard methods to interrogate objects fail, use the following methods:
Add Menu Items
Standard interrogation requires you to click and drag the target icon to inspect the properties. When the pointer click for interrogation is active, you cannot access the standard menu or context menu items to interrogate them. Pega Robot Studio has two options that let you add menu items to projects during the interrogation process:
- Add Menu Items
- Add Context Menu Items
When you identify an object in an application menu, both the Add Menu Items and Add Context Menu Items options are available in the Palette by right-clicking an application control so that you can add menu items that are necessary for the automation. These options are also available in the Interrogation form after identifying the control and clicking the More icon.
Use Virtual Controls
In some Windows-based applications, many layers of the application encase the target object and prevent the interrogation process from accessing the object. The Create Control functionality on the Virtual Controls tab allows the interrogation process to reach the target object for you to add to the control list.
Use Web Controls
If a target object is in a hidden control, such as an <input> element with the attribute type-“hidden,” standard interrogation is unable to locate the control. Use the Web Controls tab to find the target objects within an application. The Web Controls tab provides a convenient way to list all web targets from a page that is currently open so that you can add an object to the project.
To list all web targets on a page, select the page in the Web Controls area then click List Web Controls.
