Using conformance checks in Pega Process Mining, contrast how work was done in reality against a reference data model and analyze the effect of undesired activities on Cases.

Accessing conformance checks

In a View, in the header of the application, click the Analyses icon, and select Conformance.

Clicking the Analyses icon in the header and selectng Conformance expands a menu that includes Model Violations, Undesired Activities, and Summary.

Reference models

An important part of conformance checking is comparing how work is done in reality against how the work should be done. To complete this type of comparison, Pega Process Mining requires a reference model in business process model and notation (BPMN) format. You can use any of the following methods to create a reference model:
  • Select traces in a Process Map and save the map as a BPMN model.
  • Import a BPMN file.
  • Draw a BPMN reference model in Pega Process Mining.
You can immediately apply the reference model to the data when you save it, or you can save the reference model and apply it later. However, to view model violations, the system requires you to select a model. You can find the list of models by clicking the Data Options icon in the header and selecting View Models, as shown in the following figure:

Clicking the Data Options icon lists the View Models option in a menu.

View Models
In the View Models dialog box, you can select a model to apply to the View. To do this, in the Activities column, click the Select this model icon, which looks like a play button, as shown in the following figure:

In an Activities column, clicking an icon that looks like a play button is the method for selecting a reference model.

Model violations

After you select a reference model, when you click Model Violations in the navigation bar, the page lists the traces that violated the reference model. The system orders the list by the number of affected Cases in descending order, as shown in the following figure:

List of model violations shows number and percent of affected cases for each violation.

Clicking a model violation displays additional information, such as a visual of the deviations as shown in the following figure:

Detailed information on a model violation includes color coding where missing activities are green and unexpected activities are red striped.

Undesired activities

The Undesired Activities page provides a way for you to select undesired activities, such as Rejected, and see the impact of these activities on Cases, as shown in the following figure:

The Undesired Activities page lists the selected undesired activities and how these activities affect cases.

Conformance Summary

The Summary page presents visuals so that you can easily see the impact of all model violations on the total Cases present and the impact of the activities that you defined as undesired on the total Cases present. The following figure shows an example of these visuals on the Summary page:

The Conformance Summary page visually represents the impact of all model violations and all undesired activities.
