Integrating a Buddy in Constellation
This topic covers the necessary tasks to add a Pega GenAI Knowledge Buddy™ to a Constellation application. Before you perform these steps, ensure that the Buddy component is added to your application, then verify that the authentication profile and Knowledge Buddy service URL are correctly configured. These are explained in more detail in the Implementation guide at the following link Knowledge Buddy integration and the topic Integrating a Buddy into a Pega application.
After you complete the prerequisites, perform the steps described in the following sections in order.
Setting up the configuration
You can use the Knowledge Management - Widget Configuration Set to customize the parameters of a Buddy's behavior. Confirm that the configuration set setup is correct.
- In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Control Panel > Interactions.
- Click Knowledge, then to the right of Knowledge Management Widget click Continue.
Note: While the Knowledge Buddy widget is present and you can configure it in the release '25 of Pega applications, this widget will be deprecated in future releases. The Pega Knowledge widget includes the Knowledge Buddy tab, which you customize by using the options in the Knowledge Management Widget configuration set.
The following are some of the configurations that are included for both UI KIT and Constellation:
- Enable Knowledge Buddy: After you enable this, Knowledge Buddy is displayed in a separate tab of the Knowledge Widget, where users can ask questions and receive responses from Knowledge Buddy.
- Default Knowledge Buddy Ask questions: Enter the Buddy name as the default for the Buddy tab to refer to and generate a response. If you leave this blank, the Knowledge Buddy will not produce any response.
- Display References: When enabled, displays the references taken by Knowledge Buddy to generate the response for the query asked.
- Enable Copy: Enables the copy response option for responses generated by Knowledge Buddy. Once enabled, a copy option will appear next to each Buddy response, which users can click to copy the response.
- Enable Share: Enables the share response option for responses generated by Knowledge Buddy. Once enabled, a Share option will appear next to each Buddy response, allowing users to share the response in email/chat.
- Enable Share Reference: If enabled, the reference in Buddy response will be shared in email/chat when configured, along with the Buddy response.
Setting up the UI
You can add the Knowledge Management widget to any landing page or Case page. Add the Constellation React widget.
- In Dev Studio, ensure the ConstellationPegaStaticURL dynamic system setting uses the https://cs-cdn.constellation.pega.io/prod URL, as shown in the following figure:
- Open the View Rule in the implementation layer where you want to add the Knowledge Management widget
In this example, you are adding the Knowledge Management to the My dashboard landing page of the Interaction Portal from the Customer Service - Constellation application. - Click Add, and then in the list, click Widgets > Knowledge.

- Optional: To apply a custom name, in the Context name field, enter a label.
Note: If the Context Type is Page, the context passes the page name.
