Pega Knowledge migration to Constellation overview

Migrating Pega Knowledge from the UI Kit application to the Constellation application is primarily a user interface transition rather than a data migration, because both applications use the same underlying database tables. Ratings, views, and article content remain intact, since the tables are shared between both applications.

Currently, migration follows a hybrid coexistence model. Article authoring, approval, and publishing can occur in the Constellation application, while some core configurations, such as content types and language settings, remain managed in the UI Kit application. Existing UI Kit articles are compatible with the Constellation portal, and users can edit them there to create new versions.

The article authoring flow follows the traditional pattern: creation, approval, and publishing. The Constellation application currently supports three content types: Authored (rich text content maintained within the application), URL (references to external websites), and Attachment (a single file upload, such as PDF, Word, or text). Widgets support attachments, related articles, and tags to improve discoverability.

The Constellation application integrates with Pega GenAI Knowledge Buddy™. Real-time ingestion status (success or failure) is visible directly on the article, and the Constellation application supports ingesting up to three attachments per authored article into Pega GenAI Knowledge Buddy™. Users can also manually re-ingest content regardless of the previous ingestion status.

The Constellation application supports multiple article versions, with only one Resolved-Published version active at a time. Available actions include Preview, Edit (creates a new draft), Restore (reverts to an older version), Delete (discards a draft), and Withdraw (discards an article after publishing). Scheduling features, such as Future Publish and Future Expiry, let users set specific dates for content to go live or be archived.

Taxonomy in the Constellation application currently displays as a flat list rather than the collapsible tree available in the UI Kit application. To help users distinguish between categories that share the same name but sit in different branches, run the taxonomy path utility to populate the Taxonomy Path property before you switch users to the Constellation application.

Several features are not yet available in the Constellation application, including help sites, custom Rich Text Editor plugins, snippets, article references, templates, bulk actions, print article, and end-user feedback. Custom content types from the UI Kit application are not supported in the Constellation application; if a user edits an item with a custom content type in the Constellation application, the item converts to the Authored content type. The Troubleshooters feature is deprecated and will not move to the Constellation application. Help sites created in the UI Kit application can display articles authored in both the UI Kit application and the Constellation application at the same time.
