Online Training

Missions replace online courses in the new Pega Academy. Missions are free, self-paced, learning paths that provide you with the knowledge and skills to achieve a specific learning objective for a role, capability, or product. Some Missions contain other Missions within them. Every Mission has an associated badge that can be earned by completing all the content within the Mission.

Missions consist of the following components:

  • Modules: Learning content to help you understand what tools or features to use for various use cases and how to apply the technology correctly.  All modules end with a quiz to ensure that you have absorbed the material.

  • Challenges: Hands-on exercises performed in the Pega technology to ensure you learned the knowledge in the modules. The challenges give you precise instruction at every step. Some challenges will be auto-graded so they cannot be marked as complete until done correctly. Challenges also include walk-through videos which show step-by-step instructions.

  • Mission Exercise: Use all the concepts and tasks learned in the Mission to build an application (or piece of an application) based on a general direction.  Completion of the Mission Exercise is required to earn a Mission badge.

  • Mission Test: An assessment to ensure that you have learned all the concepts covered across all Modules in a Mission.  Completion of the Mission Test is required to earn a Mission badge.
Open Accordion Close Accordion

While some Missions do equate to courses, a Mission can also contain other Missions within it. For example, the Low-Code App Builder mission is part of the larger System Architect mission. This will typically occur for students who are on a certification path.

Additionally, some Modules may be used in multiple Mission. Therefore, as you complete Modules you will make progress in all of the Missions that share those Modules.  This makes it easier than ever to complete more Missions and discover new ones.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Yes. When viewing a topic within a Module, you can download and print content from each topic page by clicking the Download PDF button in the upper right corner of the interface.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Module quizzes and knowledge checks will allow you to check your answers to determine which are correct and incorrect. These are both part of the learning process. You can retry them again and again until you get them right. When they are correct, they are marked in green. When they are incorrect, they are marked in a pale red. Feedback is provided to help you learn.

Mission tests, however, are badged. Similar to certifications, the mission test assesses your overall learning and comprehension of the role or competency that you are trying to earn a badge on. Earning a badge for successfully passing a mission test, showcases your skill level and understanding of the role or competency. To maintain the integrity of the mission test, and to ensure only those who can understand the questions can pass the test and obtain the badge, the answers are not published. This is also the reason you may not retake the exam once you pass with the passing score of 80%.

There are two types of hands-on experiences in Pega Academy:

  1. Challenges: Hands-on exercises performed in the Pega technology to ensure you learned the knowledge in the modules. The challenges give you precise instruction at every step. Some challenges will be auto-graded so they cannot be marked as complete until done correctly. Challenges also include walk-through videos which show step-by-step instructions.

  2. Mission Exercises: Use all the concepts and tasks learned in the Mission to build an application (or piece of an application) based on a general direction.  Completion of the Mission Exercise is required to earn a Mission badge.

For many Challenges and Mission Exercises, your Pega Cloud environment will initiate within 30 seconds. On average, the system takes about 1 minutes and 30 seconds. However, during peak times as it may take up to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. You only need to click the “Initialize Pega” button once.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Each Challenge and Mission Exercise uses a separate cloud environment.

You may have only two active systems per mission.  If you initiate a third environment in the same mission, your oldest environment will be terminated.

Below are the expiration guidelines for each environment:

Challenges

  • Inactive Challenge environments will be terminated after 2 days
  • All Challenge environments will be terminated after 7 days (regardless of your activity)

Mission Exercises

  • Inactive Mission Exercise environments will be terminated after 7 days
  • All Mission Exercise environments will be terminated after 7 days (regardless of your activity)

After initializing your cloud environment on a Challenge or Mission Exercise page, you may click Reset Instance.

Access the Mission associated with your non-current badge.  You will be able to see all of the Modules and/or Challenges that have been updated by seeing which ones are not complete.  Check the Hide Completed checkbox on the Mission page to quickly filter out the content you have already completed, and complete the training.

If you already know the content and are experienced in implementation, you can simply complete the Mission Exercise and Mission Test and to earn the current badge.

Badges and Achievements

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Our badge program currently consists of certification badges, enablement badges (awarded for completing Pega Academy Missions or attending an instructor-led class), and event badges with more types to come.  For enablement badges earned through completing online Missions, you can start to track how current your skills are in that product or capability.

For more information visit the Pega Achievements page.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

To earn a Mission badge, students must complete the Mission Exercise (if applicable) and the Mission Test.  This will ensure that you can successfully apply your knowledge and bring all the concepts of the Mission together.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Yes.  If you are an experienced Pega professional, you may earn a Mission badge by completing Mission Exercise (if applicable) and the Mission Test.  However, you will not earn a badge for any other sub-Missions that may be associated with that Mission.

Pega's "Readiness" badges (i.e., Pega Platform Ready, Customer Service Ready, Robotics Ready, Sales Automation Ready, and Delivery Ready) are now replaced by a new currency indicator (!) for badges in your My Pega profile achievements page. Achieve your certification, and then keep current by completing the Missions as they are updated.

Open Accordion Close Accordion

From your My Pega profile, view your Achievements. For each Mission badge that is no longer current, an (!) icon will appear.  This indicates that the Mission has been updated and you should complete the new Mission to earn the current badge.  This is an easy way to stay current with your skills.

Here is an example: If you earn a certification (e.g., Pega Certified System Architect (PCSA) certification) on version 8.4, and then version 8.5 becomes available, you simply need to complete the new content recommended to you in the System Architect Mission.  This updates your Mission badge and you are considered current for the latest Pega version.

Readiness badges (Pega Platform Ready, Customer Service Ready, etc.) earned in the previous Pega Academy application have been retired and do not display in the Achievements page in the new site. Instead, we have new missions and mission badges available in the new Pega Academy, and we are encouraging students to keep current with training by taking the latest versions of the missions. Further information about the new Pega Academy and badges, and keeping current can be found on our Pega Academy Welcome page. Additionally, FAQ pages can be found at https://academy.pega.com/faqs and https://community.pega.com/pa-transitionfaqs.

General Certification Exam Information

We recommend the following study tips to prepare for a Pega certification exam:

  • Complete the corresponding online Mission to your certification.  Completing this Mission will prepare you for the types of questions that may be on the certification exam.  Please note that passing Module quizzes, Challenges, Mission Exercises and MissionsTests do not guarantee a passing score on the certification exam.
  • Review the Exam pages.  These pages are available in Pega Academy for each Pega exam. Each page includes the passing score, question formats, number of questions, test domain weighting, and the test topics covered in each domain.
  • Attend a Test prep session. These sessions are periodically offered through Pega Academy and can be found on the instructor-led class schedule.
  • View a demonstration of the Pearson VUE exam interface to help get comfortable with the testing environment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pegasystems does not endorse or recommend using any study materials from third-party vendors. These include websites and forums where brain dumps, exam answers, and study guides exist.

  • Reading Passage/Scenario questions: After reading a scenario, answer a question or series of questions about the scenario.

A response is considered correct when it accurately completes the statement or answers the question.

Distracters or incorrect answers are plausible response options that examinees with incomplete knowledge are likely to choose.

You do not need to re-certify after you have earned certification. Pega Certifications currently do not expire, though this is subject to change at Pega's discretion.

Instead, keep your skills and certification current by completing the equivalent certification Missions. For example: If you earned your Pega Certified System Architect (PCSA) on version 8.4, when 8.5 is released, you only need to complete the new content recommended to you in the System Architect Mission.  Once you complete the Mission, your PCSA becomes 8.5 equivalent. Additionally, you will never lose the history of all the versions you have earned.

For more information keeping current, see Badges and Achievements.

To earn PCLSA certification, you need to pass two exams:

  1. Pega Architecture Exam
  2. LSA Architecture Application Build

After the successful completion of the Application Build, the PCLSA certification will display on your profile.

Certification Policies

Open Accordion Close Accordion

Candidates must take no action to compromise the integrity or confidentiality of any Pega certification exam or certification program. Prohibited actions are described in the Pega Terms of Participation agreement. Penalties for violating the policy can include revoking of certifications, as well as a lifetime ban on all future exams.

Pegasystems, in its sole discretion, shall determine whether an applicant has met the requirements for certification. Pegasystems shall be entitled to cancel your certification or ban you from taking an exam in the event that:

  • You commit any breach of the testing agreement
  • You fail to comply with any recertification requirements that may be imposed by Pegasystems to ensure that your skillset is up-to-date
  • You fail to maintain the confidentiality of the exam by disclosing verbally, in writing, or in any media, the contents of the exam or any part of the exam
  • Any information provided by you in connection with the Certification Program is determined to be false or misleading
  • You are determined to have cheated, or assisted another in cheating on any exam associated with the Certification Program

Pega regularly publishes new versions of its certification exams. These versions may fluctuate in the level of difficulty as questions are updated or as certification requirements evolve. Consistent with industry certification best practices, when a new version of an exam is launched, the passing score is reviewed and modified as needed. As a result, passing scores are subject to change without notice. For example, exams that previously contained knowledge retention-based questions are modified to contain knowledge application-based questions. In this scenario, the exam passing scores recalculated using statistical analysis to reflect the change in question type and difficulty level.

Exam passing scores can be found on each exam page.

Test accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis and can be requested by contacting the Pega Certification team. Documentation is required when requesting the test accommodation.
