The CPLSA mindset and mission

The Lead System Architect Mission on Pega Academy is designed to cultivate critical design thinking essential for Senior System Architects to excel. The goal is to enhance your ability to identify design options, evaluate their merits, and form expert recommendations, solidifying your position as a leader in enterprise application development.

The modern LSA: A mini-CTO

In today's era of AI-driven delivery, the role of a Lead System Architect evolves. An Lead System Archtiect (LSA) is no longer just a builder of software. You are a mini-CTO who is accountable for the entire lifecycle of a solution from concept through deployment.

Your objective is to master strategic thinking. Like a chess master who evaluates long-term consequences before making a move, you identify and evaluate design options to determine the optimal path forward. The configuration of rules is straightforward. Strategic design ensures that a solution is scalable, performant, and extensible.

Read more about the LSA role, see Beyond the build: Why your best LSA is now your "mini-CTO."

LSA course structure: A journey through mini-missions

This course is structured as a series of self-contained "mini-missions" that focus on critical phases of Enterprise application development. The curriculum progressively builds your skills:

  1. Infrastructure and architecture: Begin by mastering the foundational pillars of enterprise-grade application.
  2. Planning and design: Apply design thinking to create robust application blueprints. This phase emphasizes the importance of debating and selecting designs that prioritize performance, scalability, and extensibility.
  3. Implementation and deployment: Move from design to execution by considering constraints such as time, cost, effort, and long-term maintenance. Understand key processes for deploying an application through higher environments, from development to quality assurance, user acceptance testing, and production.

Throughout this journey, the primary focus remains on design thinking rather than Rule configuration.

Hands-on experience

The challenges in this Mission course provide comprehensive, fully functional solutions that serve as a reference. However, to develop your skills, you are strongly encouraged to work beyond the provided examples.

For effective hands-on practice, create new applications in your cloud instance or local environment. Use the business scenarios provided in the course to develop solutions from the beginning. This independent work is crucial for developing the analytical thought process required to compare design options and determine the best possible solution.

Be aware that cloud instances provided in Pega Academy are for temporary use and are not intended for long-term storage. Back up your work regularly and store it securely on a personal drive.
