The Contact Center

A contact center is a centralized area where interactions with a business's customers take place across different channels. In this topic, you will learn what a contact center is and about the different types of contact centers.

Transcript

A contact center is a centralized hub where all customer interactions come into a business. These interactions can include phone calls, live chats, web self-service monitoring, bot health checks, and back-office support such as email processing. The main goal of a contact center is to manage relationships with customers effectively.

Contact centers can be referred to by different names, such as "call centers" or "customer engagement centers." Regardless of the name, the purpose remains the same: to handle customer interactions and provide support.

Now, let's discuss the different types of contact centers you may come across. There are primarily two types: in-house (owned) contact centers and business process outsourcing (BPO) contact centers.

In-house contact centers are owned and operated by the organization itself. They have complete control over the operations and can make decisions regarding the technology and staff used. This type of contact center is typically easier to sell to, as the organization has direct buying power and decision-making authority.

On the other hand, BPO contact centers are operated by external companies that provide staff and technology for businesses. These centers are often used by organizations that want to save on costs and don't have the budget for an in-house contact center. Selling to a BPO contact center can be more challenging, as you will need to navigate the interests of both the BPO and the business they serve.
