Automation package management

When deploying a robotic automation project using Pega Robot Studio™, you can publish the resulting automation package to Pega Robot Manager™, where you can efficiently manage the various versions of the packages. The first time that a package is deployed to Pega Robot Manager, Robot Manager creates a default package assignment group, named Default. A package assignment group is a collection of key properties that you use to manage a package. A package assignment group is always created inside a package, and consists of the following:

  • The package version
  • The applicable Runtime version
  • Any package assignments (associated Work Groups, associated robots, or associated users)
  • Any environment overrides

You can set up your package assignment groups in any way that matches your requirements.

Management of package assignment groups

In Robot Manager, you create and update package assignment groups to group the assignments for each package version. Each package assignment group contains an assigned package version that can be one of the following types:

  • Signed
  • Encrypted
  • Both signed and encrypted
  • Neither signed nor encrypted

Administrators associate each package version with one or more package assignment groups, as shown in the following figure:

For more information about available actions for managing package assignment groups, see the following related links:

Management of assignments in a package assignment group

Package assignment groups can contain assignments from Work Groups, departments, users, or any combination of the three. When you delegate resources to a package assignment group, you create a package assignment, as shown in the following figure:

Package assignments for a department

For example, users can inherit packages from a package assignment group assigned to their departments. However, administrators can assign package assignment groups and related package versions directly to those users. If you assign multiple packages to users, they can select which package they want to use when they log in to their workstations. For more information about viewing and updating package assignments, see Viewing package assignments and Updating package assignments.

Note: You can assign multiple package assignment groups and packages to a user, but you can assign only one package to a Work Group.

Management of packages

After publishing an automation package from Pega Robot Studio to Robot Manager, you can access several out-of-the-box portal options for managing your automation package. The following table lists some available options for automation package management options in Robot Manager:

Action

Description

Finding packages

Use search, sorting, and filtering mechanisms to find packages to modify or view in detail.

Assign a package

Assign a package version to a Work Group.

Remove package

Remove the package from a Work Group.

Adding test packages

Add a package as a test package to a Work Group so you can test a new or updated package before making it available in Robot Manager.

Deleting test packages

Delete a test package from the Work Group page.

Note: It is best practice to use test packages with auto-balancing turned off, within a limited scope, and for a short time only.

On the package details page, you view and manage the details of each package assignment group associated with the package. For more information about how to view package details, see View package details. From the Package details page, the Actions menu provides additional package management options. In the following image, click the + icons to learn more about each process in the Actions menu:

In addition to the Actions menu options, you can remove a package version from an assignment group from the details page. For more information about removing a package version, see Removing package versions.
