Orchestrating enterprise Agents with Pega Agentic Process Fabric
Pega Agentic Process Fabric™ is a layer built on Pega Case Fabric™. It connects to Pega applications to discover workflows, data sources, automations, and application-level Agents. It can also connect to third-party AI Agents through Agent2Agent (A2A) communication and to external tools through Model Context Protocol (MCP) services.
The Intelligent Registry records registered capabilities and maintains information about available Agents and workflows. Fabric Control Agent uses AI reasoning and information from the registry to identify a suitable Agent, delegate the request, and return the result. Fabric Control Agent also logs actions and decisions to support visibility and auditability.
Pega Agentic Process Fabric Hub
Pega Agentic Process Fabric Hub is an application that supports both Pega Case Fabric and Pega Agentic Process Fabric.
- Pega Case Fabric provides consolidated access to Cases and Assignments distributed across connected applications.
- Pega Agentic Process Fabric discovers and orchestrates registered Agents and capabilities, including workflows, data sources, automations, and external MCP tools.
The Pega Agentic Process Fabric Hub implements these capabilities in one application. It does not replace the connected applications as the owners of their workflows, Cases, business Rules, or authoritative data.
Depending on the business requirement, you can register an application for Pega Case Fabric, Pega Agentic Process Fabric, or both.
When you register an application, select one of the following registration modes:
- Both (Default): Registers the application for Pega Agentic Process Fabric and Pega Case Fabric.
- Agentic Process Fabric (Agents / MCP): Registers Agents and other application capabilities for orchestration.
- Case Fabric: Registers the application for access to distributed Cases and Assignments.
For Both (Default) and Agentic Process Fabric (Agents / MCP) registration, configure the applicable connection type and connection details. MCP-based connectivity is the recommended option for Pega application registration. MCP reduces per-application configuration and enables AI Agents to discover and invoke application capabilities.

Pega Agentic Process Fabric capabilities
Pega Agentic Process Fabric provides capabilities that support governed Agent orchestration across connected applications. Key capabilities include:
Intelligent Registry
The Intelligent Registry records registered capabilities and maintains information about available Agents and workflows. It supports the discovery of capabilities deployed across Pega applications and supports A2A and MCP connectivity.
Fabric Control Agent
Fabric Control Agent is a built-in, application-level conversational Agent in Pega Agentic Process Fabric. It is accessible from the left navigation pane.
Fabric Control Agent orchestrates specialized application Agents through the following process:
- A user submits a request.
- Fabric Control Agent uses AI reasoning and registered capability information to identify an appropriate Agent.
- Fabric Control Agent delegates the task.
- The selected Agent performs the work and returns the results.
- Fabric Control Agent presents the result to the user
Fabric Control Agent determines which application-level Agent to interact with to trigger a workflow, call a Data Page, or invoke a Pega Knowledge Agent™. For an A2A connection, Fabric Control Agent analyzes the available Agent card descriptions to identify an appropriate Agent for the request.
For example, an organization can register banking applications that contain specialized Agents. From one interface, users can submit requests to create Cases, request credit cards, analyze financial data, or apply for loans.
To make an application-level Agent available through A2A, configure the Agent in the remote Pega application and enable external access. The system then generates the Agent card information used to connect the Agent to Fabric Control Agent,
Operational visibility
Fabric Control Agent logs actions and decisions, providing records that can support visibility and auditability and assist organizations with their compliance and transparency efforts . These records can help organizations trace Agent interactions and delegated tasks.
Open connectivity
Pega Agentic Process Fabric supports emerging interoperability standards:
- A2A enables communication with Pega and third-party AI Agents.
- MCP enables AI Agents to discover and invoke capabilities exposed by applications and external MCP services.
This connectivity enables orchestration across applications and platforms. For more information, see Pega Agentic Process Fabric
Implementing Pega Agentic Process Fabric
Implementation centers on Pega Agentic Process Fabric Hub. To register a Pega application, provide the following details:
- The full application alias URL
- The OAuth 2.0 client ID
- The OAuth 2.0 client secret
- The registration mode
- The applicable connection type and connection details
After registration, the Registered Applications landing page displays the application and its registration status. ACTIVE status indicates successful registration.
You can also register third-party Agents and external MCP services by providing the connection and authentication information required by the applicable registration interface.
The Intelligent Registry records discovered capabilities. Fabric Control Agent uses the registered capability information and AI reasoning to select an appropriate Agent and delegate the request.
Design considerations
Validate each practice against your organization’s security, compliance, and operational requirements. Consider the following general architecture and governance practices:
Define ownership: Keep workflows, data, permissions, and business controls in their owning applications.
Control registry contents: Register only approved Agents, workflows, tools, and data features with clear descriptions.
Choose protocols deliberately: Select the connection type based on the capability that you are exposing. A2A enables Agent-to-Agent communication through Agent cards. MCP enables AI Agents to discover and invoke application capabilities and is the recommended connectivity option for Pega application registration.
Enforce least-privilege access: Expose only authorized features and data.
Design predictable delegation: Define clear boundaries between similar features.
Require appropriate approvals: Require approval for dynamically created workflows and high-impact actions.
Minimize shared context: Transfer only data required to complete delegated tasks.
Plan for failures: Define behavior for unavailable Agents, timeouts, invalid responses, and partial completion.
Govern changes and traceability: Manage integration changes and preserve important interaction details.
