The Pega design system
Design systems
A design system is a set of UI elements, styles, patterns, themes, and guidelines that are used and referenced by development teams to provide a consistent user experience. A design system also includes more abstract elements such as brand values, shared ways of working, or UX mindset. Leveraging a design system helps developers avoid duplicating work across multiple applications and facilitates the work of the team. Pega distributes its design system through the UI Kit.
Note: Beginning in 8.4, Pega is introducing a new design system called Cosmos. Refer to the Pega Cosmos Design System site for more information.
UI Kit
Most Pega Platform™ applications are built on the UI Kit, which is defined with the ruleset UI Kit. The UI Kit ruleset contains hundreds of rules related to styling. For example, the UI Kit contains a binary file py-calendar-icon, the calendar icon associated with the Date Time control. By default, all applications that have a Date Time control use the py-calendar-icon file for the calendar icon.
UI Kit versioning
An updated UI Kit, and therefore an updated design system, is released with every version of Pega Platform. All changes are documented on Pega Community.
