Pega Blueprint for application design and development
Pega Blueprint™ is a software as a Service application that combines the power of generative AI with Pega best practices to accelerate workflow design and application development. With Blueprint, business and IT teams can align more effectively and bridge communication gaps that are difficult to resolve with traditional design thinking methods. The application enables Lead System Architects to co-create and collaborate with Solution Designers and other key stakeholders to build a comprehensive application design.
Blueprint applies built-in industry expertise to provide a foundational structure for application design so that you can evolve your solution by adhering to industry best practices. Seamlessly transform your design into a new Pega Infinity™ application in seconds and accelerate the development process.
Blueprint also uses legacy knowledge effectively. Analyzing legacy workflow diagrams and requirements instantly generates cloud-ready, optimized workflows. This approach supports a smooth transition from outdated systems to modern, scalable solutions.
Key features of Blueprint
With Blueprint, you can generate a comprehensive application design in minutes by applying the following steps:
Describe your business problem and add legacy knowledge: Provide AI with the purpose of the application, functional description, along with any supporting artifacts available from legacy application documentation. By using industry-standard templates, Blueprint delivers the optimal design for your application. If your application requirements do not fit the existing templates, the details you provide to Blueprint generate a design document that you can then customize.
Customize AI-generated workflow lifecycles: Blueprint generates the design with Case Types, Case Life Cycles, Data Objects, and Personas based on the template and your inputs. Tailor workflows (Case Types) to align with your specific business requirements. Edit the Case Types, Case hierarchy, Case Life Cycles, Case Data Model, business rules, routing, and automations to precisely fit your application needs.
Design Data Models: Define the data structures and Personas for each workflow to ensure accurate and targeted functionality. Review the Data Types, remove unnecessary fields, or define new data structures to fit the requirements of the applications. Ensure that you capture external systems and data integration requirements.
Define Personas: Define the Personas who need to participate in different tasks (for example, review, approve, or report) on the Case Types you defined. Capture their Case, data, and Channel access requirements.
Preview cross-Channel rendering: Visualize how workflows appear across different Channels and for various Personas.
Export or download the Blueprint: Your Blueprint is available as a PDF for download and sharing with stakeholders for further review and sign-off. Export the generated BLUEPRINT file and import it into Pega Platform™ by using the Build from a Blueprint option in the New Application wizard, which creates a working application. After the application is built, a Branch Rule is created for you. Use the Branch Rule to review and refine all Rules before you merge them for development.

Role of LSA in adopting Blueprint
In a Blueprint-driven implementation, the Lead System Architect (LSA) is responsible for refining AI-generated Case Life Cycles to ensure alignment with business and domain requirements. An LSA must understand and adopt the Blueprint Delivered™ methodology across all phases of implementation.
While Blueprint accelerates design by generating Case Types, Stages, and Steps, LSAs must review and adjust these elements to reflect real-world business scenarios and operational needs. Also, validate and refine AI-suggested Data Models by consolidating Data Types, removing unnecessary attributes, defining new structures, and capturing system integrations where required.
By collaborating closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and business stakeholders, the LSA leads the iterative refinement of Blueprint outputs, combining AI acceleration with human expertise to deliver solutions that are robust, practical, and fit for purpose.

Benefits of Blueprint
Blueprint delivers transformative value across the application development lifecycle by fundamentally changing how enterprise applications are conceived, designed, and delivered. Some of the key benefits include:
Accelerates planning and requirements capture: Blueprint reduces the planning phase by automating requirements capture and validation. Requirements‑gathering sessions that require extended time are reduced to minutes. LSAs focus on refinement instead of initial documentation. This acceleration addresses a significant bottleneck in enterprise application development.
Reduces time, effort, and cost: Blueprint provides a strong starting point for enterprise application design and compresses development timelines without loss of quality. The tool automates the generation of foundational application structures such as Case Types, Data Types, and Personas. This automation reduces development effort.
Legacy transformation: Blueprint accelerates legacy transformation by ingesting legacy assets and generating modern and cloud‑ready Pega workflows. This transformation reduces upfront analysis, avoids lift‑and‑shift migrations, and preserves core business logic while removing technical debt.
Embeds industry best practices: Blueprint applies workflow best practices and proven industry standards into the AI-generated designs, ensuring workflows are optimized from inception. This approach helps to future-proof applications so that they remain efficient to run and are easier to update as business needs evolve
Bridges business and technical stakeholders: Blueprint acts as a collaborative workspace where business stakeholders and IT teams work together on end-to-end workflows. The tool translates business requirements into technical designs instantaneously by creating a shared understanding and reducing miscommunication between teams. LSAs benefit from enhanced stakeholder alignment throughout the design process.
Facilitates seamless transition to development: After refinement, teams upload the Blueprint directly into Pega Platform. This integration creates a working application and enables development to proceed immediately. The transition from design to implementation becomes accelerated and without friction
