Associated transactions
Pega Smart Dispute™ Agentic Automation provides enhanced pre-dispute resolution features by rendering associated transaction information from Visa Resolve Online. Associated transactions are a mechanism by Visa Resolve Online (VROL) to deflect off dispute submission.
Associated transactions achieve this by:
- Purchase Inquiry details or Order details contain comprehensive information of transaction to help cardholders to identify the transactions
- Credits or Reversals are either in processing or already processed for the given transactions. This helps identify the credits/reversals which are already provided by merchants which makes the dispute unnecessary
- Authorizations linked to the transactions allow access to the exact authorizations provided by the cardholder for the amount to be debited. The authorizations also help access the validity of the dispute.
Credit card transaction processing involves two events authorization and clearing. In authorization the cardholder provides permission for his card to be debited for the service used either through physical card or entering the details online. In clearing merchant requests for settlement of his funds. Transaction ID is a unique identifier for each such event. Smart Dispute uses Visa Resolve Online (VROL) provided APIs for dispute processing.
During the case lifecycle, Smart Dispute Agentic Automation performs a Transaction Inquiry (TI) which returns a list of credits, authorizations, reversals, adjustments, and disputes (including response, financials, and response financials) that are associated with a selected transaction and returns additional purchase inquiry details. Users handling disputes can associate single or a group of transactions to a selected transaction or have an option to specify that the associated transactions do not relate to the disputed transaction. They can also acknowledge receipt of the Purchase Inquiry (PI) details. The selected disputed transaction is not included in the list of associated transactions returned by Visa, although the list can include one or more approved authorizations that match the Transaction ID. This feature aids customers in recognizing transactions, particularly in cases of friendly fraud disputes, thereby facilitating quicker and more accurate dispute resolution. The transaction which is associated by the user is marked as" Yes" on Visa system.
Any credit, credit authorization, reversal, or adjustment transaction that was on an associated transaction selection list with a value of "Yes" for Associated, is filtered out from the list of associated transactions for subsequent disputes. However, Credit transactions are filtered from the list of associated transactions if they are already disputed or pinned to other transactions as associated
For Authorization disputes, Visa does not include any authorization that matches solely on AuthCode and does not match the transaction ID in the associated transactions. Before a dispute can be created and sent to Acquirer, Visa performs validation using the original transaction data, transactions associated with the original transaction, and the selected dispute category. Visa uses these associated transactions during the dispute evaluation and liability assignment processes. Some associated transactions support the dispute evaluation process, while others resolve the need for a dispute to be initiated. Visa returns an error message if it determines that the dispute is invalid. The screenshot below shows the associated transactions for the selected (disputed) transaction.
Order insights
Pega Smart Dispute Agentic Automation utilizes the Order Insights program (formerly known as Visa Merchant Purchase Inquiry – VMPI) to enable agents to provide relevant merchant information to accountholders when they do not recognize a particular transaction, potentially preventing a dispute filing with Visa.
Order Insights provide Issuers with real-time access to order details related to transactions between consumers and merchants. Additional data regarding the transaction can also be made available, including location, payment method, transaction processing method, and user registration, as well as authentication details, purchase details, product usage details, and customer service notes regarding the purchase. Order Insights retrieve information that is called order details. Order details give merchants the option to respond to accountholder inquiries regarding unrecognized transactions (and other dispute categories) before a chargeback or dispute occurs, by providing relevant supplemental merchant information in near real-time. The application also supports similar data retrieval from other third-party providers. The primary use case for order details is to help cardholder recognition of transactions, thereby avoiding dispute submission to Visa. The screenshot below shows the order details for the selected (disputed) transaction.
