Robotic Work Groups and assignment types
Use work groups and assignment types to route work to unattended robots. Each robotic work group in Pega Robot Manager™ contains one or more types of assignments. These assignment types function as queues that hold similar types of work where each assignment type maps to a specific robotic automation. The unattended robot assigned to this work group runs a robotic automation package that is capable of handling all assignment types within the work group. For example, you can create a work group of robots to place product orders to match demand. That work group can contain assignment types that correspond to the various product types available for ordering. You can then associate the appropriate automation package with the work group that includes the automations, to process the orders.
How robots get assignments
Unattended robots retrieve assignments from work groups through Pega Platform Get-Next-Work (GNW) capabilities. Robots can retrieve assignment types by urgency, or according to the order in which Robot Manager lists assignment types on the work group page. By default, robots retrieve assignments based on the urgency of the assignment types. In the following image, click the + icons to learn more about how robots receive assignments:
Manage work groups and assignment types
You can use Robot Manager to manage your work groups and assignment types in several ways. For example, you can perform the following actions:
- create work groups and assignment types
- start assignment types
- stop assignment types
- change the priority of assignment types
- monitor the health of your work groups
- re-process any failed assignments
For more information on the various actions you can take with work groups, see Managing work groups and assignment types.
Access Robot Manager Work groups page
In the navigation pane of Pega Robot Manager, in the Unattended RPA section of the side navigation menu, click Work groups to access the list of Work groups and assignment types, as shown in the following figure:
In the work space, you can get an overview of all your existing work groups, see how many robots and assignment types there are in each work group, and see if you need to address any issues in a work group. In addition, you can create new work groups or edit existing ones. After clicking on a work group, you can access additional functions, controls, and performance metrics for that work group. You can also use the Work groups work space to associate packages to your work groups. For more information, see Assigning packages to work groups.
