Tool windows
Pega Robot Studio’s development environment provides tool windows to give access to add or modify project items and components used in a project. This topic covers the four most commonly used tool windows:
- Palette
- Toolbox
- Debugging window
- Property grid
Palette
The Palette is the principal tool window a developer uses for designing automations and configuring interrogated controls. Much like a painter uses various colors on a palette, a developer has full access to project items relevant to the specific designer window currently open.
When a developer opens an automation, the Palette displays other automations, applications, forms, and global containers that are added to it. The Palette enables a developer to create the necessary automation.
When an application is open, the Palette displays the factories and interrogated controls. Clicking a control in the Palette refreshes the designer window and property window to show the targets, match rules, and properties for the specific control.
Toolbox
The Toolbox window contains components available for use in robotics projects. The toolbox divides components into specific categories, such as Windows Forms, External Data Sources, Variables, and Work Flow. Recently-used components are displayed in the Recent category, and you can add commonly-used components to the Favorites category for easy access.
Debugging window
You can open the Debugging window from the standard toolbar via Debug > Debugging tools. When open, the window displays information about breakpoints in the current project and allows you to enable or disable specific breakpoints during debugging.
Property grid
The property grid provides developer access to adjust the properties of a given project item or object. Like the Palette, the property grid refreshes to display the properties of the project item that are currently open in the designer window or the object selected in the Palette. In the property grid, you can modify properties, review read-only properties, and sort properties to find a specific property.
The property grid provides two views: Standard and Advanced. The Standard view for the property grid displays the most commonly-used properties for each project item or object as defined by Pega. The Advanced view displays all properties for a given project item or object. You can customize the Standard view to your organization's preferences by adding properties that are visible by default only in the Advanced view.
