Assignment types in Pega Robot Manager

When a robot starts, it continuously fetches assignments from the list of Assignment Types in the work group. Assignment types represent the various tasks that a robot can perform and contain a one-to-one relationship with the automations offered in the associated automation package. You can further refine the assignment types for your automations by creating new ones, configuring their settings, and updating their priority.

Creation of a new assignment type

When you create a work group in Robot Manager, make at least one assignment type for that work group. With Robot Manager, you can create new assignment types for your work groups as needs change. For example, when using the New Application Wizard to create a new instance of Robot Manager, while you can add an assignment type during setup, you can wait until you have more information and create a new one. During Robot Manager setup in the New Application wizard, while naming the assignment type, you can also specify whether the assignment type is in the Default work group and enable auto-balancing.

For more information about the steps necessary to create new assignment types, see Creating assignment types.

Configuration settings for assignment types

In Robot Manager, for each assignment type, you can configure settings for assignments. For example, you can specify how many assignments can be in the queue before a warning message is displayed or set the maximum processing time for an automation. In the settings section, you can configure the following possible variables:

  • Max capacity: When the number of queued assignments exceeds the maximum capacity, Robot Manager triggers notifications.
  • Max automation run time (seconds): The length of time that the automation is expected to complete its work.
  • Estimated saving (currency from locale): The estimated monetary amount that performing one assignment might save.

For more information about the steps for general configuration for assignment types, see Configuring assignment types.

You can also reset certain key performance indicators (KPIs) from the automations associated with an assignment type. You can reset KPIs for an assignment type in the following two ways:

  • From the work group details page
  • While moving an assignment type from an assignment type details page

For more information about resetting KPIs, see Resetting KPIs for assignment types on work group details page

Re-prioritization of assignment types

With Robot Manager, you can determine the priority in which work completes first by:

  • Urgency, which prioritizes the assignments with the earliest service-level agreement (SLA).
  • Assignment Type, which allows for prioritization of one assignment type over another.

By default, robots retrieve assignments based on the urgency of the individual assignments. For example, you must complete 150 Order new card assignments before processing any Dispute charge or Open account assignments. You can prioritize the Order new card assignment type over other assignment types. For more information about the steps you need to re-prioritize assignment types see, Re-prioritizing assignment types.
